These turtles live in the water. Sea turtles stick their heads out of the water to breathe. Sometimes they also breathe through their skin. Some even stay under the ice for weeks in winter. The female goes ashore to give birth. There she digs a deep pit into which she lays the eggs. This is then filled in again. The sun now incubates the eggs. When the young hatch, they immediately run to the sea so that they are not eaten by birds. There are seven different species in total. Depending on the species, they grow to different sizes, weights and ages. Their appearance also differs significantly.
