The vineyard snail is a shell-bearing snail and is mainly found in sparse forests, bushes and open habitats. A fully-grown snail is about 10 cm long and can have a shell up to 5 cm in diameter. The typical mucus it secretes primarily helps it to move and climb. However, it also serves as protection against drying out in the heat and as a defence against smaller insects.
