Red-eyed tree frogs belong to the tree frog family, which in turn belongs to the subfamily of the so-called gryphon frogs. Its name already reveals the frog's most important characteristic: this tropical animal has bright red glowing eyes. The large, protruding eyes have a bright red iris and a vertical, black pupil. Red-eyed tree frogs are also characterised by a special feature: they can place their thumb opposite the other fingers to form a real grasping hand. Their body is slender. However, their legs are extremely long in relation to their body size. Younger animals in particular therefore appear to move somewhat clumsily.
