The lion is a big cat. The males and females look very different. The male has a mane, the lioness has none. Lions live in an extended family in which the females and their babies form the majority. Duties are well distributed within the pride. The males protect and defend the females and their cubs. In return, the lioness goes hunting. They rest during the day and hunt at night.
