The hedgehog has around 8000 spines. When it is born, the spines are wrapped in a plump, water-rich skin so that its mother is not injured. It takes two days for this skin to shed and the spines to become visible. It prefers to live in forest edges or hedges. In the city, it lives in parks and gardens. Unfortunately, the hedgehog is very endangered. Even the slightest noise causes it to curl up so that all you can see is a small spiky ball. It does not move until the danger has passed. This method is very useful with enemies, but unfortunately not with cars. In winter, they hibernate in this position.
