The fox is often described as cunning. When a fox goes in search of prey, it does so cleverly. It lies down on its back on the ground and plays dead. When an animal approaches, e.g. a bird, it thinks that the fox is dead and comes within its reach. When the fox realises that the animal is there, it snaps. It is not particularly choosy when it comes to food. It hunts rodents, hares, birds and small sheep. In a pinch, it will also make do with worms, insects and snails.
