James Sulley Sullivan is the youngest son of a renowned monster family and, like all his ancestors, he attends the famous Monster University to learn the great art of scaring. Once there, he meets his one-eyed fellow student Mike Glotzlowski in his first term. An argument breaks out between the two over who is better suited to being a scare artist. It goes so far that they are thrown out of university and even end up in the human world out of despair. Only together as a team do they make it back to the monster world. Although they are no longer allowed to study at the university, in the end they are able to prove to everyone that they are excellent frighteners. Monsters University tells the prequel to the Disney/Pixar animation hit Monsters Inc. and shows how the strong friendship between the two came about.
