As the favourite daughter of a Native American chief, Pocahontas became a mediator between the Virginia Algonquin tribes and the English colonists. She forms the historical core of a historical myth about the supposedly peaceful colonisation of North America by the Europeans. In the Disney film of the same name, Pocahontas learns to listen to her inner voice and follow the 'colours of the wind' with the help of her wise advisor, Grandmother Willow.
